Biography
Steven Michael Chambers
December, 1947: Born, Denver, Colorado, USA.
June-July, 1953: Ceramic art classes, Denver Art Museum,
August, 1953: Abstract sculpture and the “Little ‘Blue Picasso’ Vase”; exhibited at Museum.
1959: First Oil Paintings, self taught oil painting; modernist
portraits and figurative works.
1961: Abstract wood sculpture, “Woman”, entered
into all Colorado Art competition.
1962: Sold first oil painting; “The Couple”.
1962-1966: Abstract modernist paintings.
1966-1970: Art/Philosophy major; University of Colorado. Studied; Art history, sculpture, drawing, and photography. 1969: Aspen, Colorado; First nude oil painting. June, 1970:
moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
1970-1975: Santa Fe, New Mexico; Owner of Tesuque Woodworks,
handcrafted furniture and design. Exhibited works at Santa Fe Arts & Crafts
Gallery, Lincoln St., Santa Fe, N.M.
1976-1984: Pursued careers in Architectural design, real
estate investment, and project development and finance.
1985-1990: Mexico City and Guadalajara, Mexico; International
Project Development and Finance.
1990-1991: Created; “Post Card” series, 32
pasted papers and oil on laminated foil, Conifer, Colorado.
1991-1995: Moved to Europe; International Finance and Investment;
Zurich, Switzerland and The Hague, the Netherlands.
1995-2002: Returned to Colorado; Started full time professional
career in painting and sculpture.
2002: Six month hiatus in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
2002-2007: Full-time studio painting and sculpture, Boulder
and Denver, Colorado.

1994: Three collages, acrylic on pressed board, C.R.F.M.
de Raff collection, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Three collages, acrylic on pressed
board, private collector, Delft, the Netherlands.
1995-1996: Created “Dialectic Realism” series,
twenty-two collage Abstracts, laminated on wood panels, eighteen held in SMC Fine Art estate.
1996: “Fertility”,
collage and acrylic on pressed board, gifted to the Yehudit Mam collection, Mexico City and New York City, NY.
1997: The 1515 Collection:
Three cubist acrylics on canvas; “Entre 1515”, “Spanish Sailor’s Dream”, “Breakfast
in Amsterdam”, permanent display in Gene and Paula Tang Collection, at 1515 Market Street Denver, Colorado.
1998: “Bogart Meets Bacall in Dream” and “Draining
a Fifty Amp Fuse”, Todd Muller Collection, Honolulu, Hawaii.
1999: “Two Sisters on a Sofa” selected for
Robin Rule juried competition, Core Art Gallery, Denver, Colorado.
2000: Numerous abstracts, acrylics on canvas. Sculptures. Established SMC Fine Art.
2000: “The Bather” and “Non-objective
Expressionist oil and steel construction on plywood“, purchased into the Mary and Colin O’Connor collections,
New York City, NY and Palm Beach, Fl. (2002).
2001-2002: Created eight mixed media paintings on panel,
six of which were purchased into the Tang 1515 Collection, on permanent public display at 1515 Market Street, Denver, Colorado.
2002: “Woman
on the Beach”, acrylic on canvas; “Night Visitor” and “M Is Moving West”, mixed media on panel,
purchased into the Ralph Davis Collection, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
2003: “Mechanism of Transition” and “Ces’t
ne Ici Pas Une Dada”, acrylic on canvas, purchased by David Carrick collection, on permanent public display in Medical
Clinic building, north Arvada, Colorado.
2001- 2003: Gallery affiliation: ‘Art Cycle/The Boulder
Gallery”, 1441 Pearl Street Mall, Boulder, Colorado. Rotating works exhibited
and sold, through Richard Burmood, Certified Art Appraiser and Gallery Owner/Curator.
Several works, including, “Je Suis Inside” (the Gertrude Stein painting) purchased into Burmood’s
private collection. Surrealistic Series of acrylic on steel paintings; “the
Train Station”, “Two Women, the Conversation”, and “At the Ticket Office “, sold to private
collectors in Texas and California.
December 2003: The Flat Irons Range Rover Christmas Show;
six major abstract works, acrylic on canvas, exhibited in the Event in the dealership’s service bay. Exhibit co-sponsored by ‘The Boulder Gallery’.
December 2004: Two “Dialectic Realism” collages
purchased by Brian Michael Shaw, Modern Art Analyst, Critic, Denver, Colorado. Mr.
Shaw is a Representative Dealer/Agent for SMC Fine Art; www.brianmichaelshaw.com, and currently lives in the Houston, Texas area and is an administrative director at the University
of Houston.
2003-2007: ‘Studio 3’, Denver, Colorado. The Artist’s private Studio; numerous major abstract works.
December 2005: Affiliated with The Yellow Door Gallery,
138 W. 12th Ave., Denver, CO, selected to be a featured Artist in Colorado Modern art magazine, 2006, Light Table publications.
2006: Nine major abstract works, purchased into the John
McElveen collection, Boulder, Colorado.
2006: Member of ‘The Art Student’s League of
Denver’.
2007: “Red Square through the Window of my Aboriginal
Memory”, purchased into the Alan Hannifin collection from donated work, auctioned in public fund raiser for cancer victim.
2007: “Apollonian Sun Mask”, purchased into
the John McCann-Doyle collection, New York City, NY.
2007: Member and

works have been sold to individual private collections, and are held by recognized art critics, gallery owners, certified
art appraisers, and sophisticated collectors in Europe, Latin America, and the United States, including the Artist’s
personal estate.
Steven Michael Chambers, SMC Fine Art, is currently creating
new works and private commissions on a continuous basis and established his professional website; smcfineart.net. All original works of art are
accompanied by the certified legal Art Documents; the ‘Provenance’ and the ‘Agreement of the Original Transfer
of Work of Art’ (TAR), which documents are issued to the collector on purchase.
